How we compared the best AI SEO tools

"AI SEO tool" covers two quite different products, so we scored each tool on both jobs:

  • AI visibility tracking: asks AI assistants the questions your buyers ask and records whether you're named, in what position, next to which competitors and with which sources.
  • Website AI audit: checks whether assistants can reach and read your site at all: AI crawler access in robots.txt and at the firewall, content without JavaScript, structured data and entity signals. We explain why this matters in AI SEO audit vs SEO audit.
  • Engine coverage: which assistants are tracked on the entry plan, not just on enterprise.
  • Price for a realistic setup: what roughly 25 to 50 tracked questions costs a month.

The tools, one by one

1. GrowMarketingPro

GrowMarketingPro tracks the questions your buyers ask on ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude and reports your score, mention rate, position, share of voice and sentiment against competitors. Paid plans ask key questions three times and average the answers, because AI responses vary from run to run. It's also the only tool here with a free, 43-factor Website AI Audit that tests AI crawlers at your firewall, not just in robots.txt.

  • Good for: small and mid-sized teams, Claude coverage on every plan, a free plan, site audit plus AI Writer and AI Humanizer in one place.
  • Watch out: doesn't track Perplexity, Google AI Overviews or Copilot yet. Newer than most tools on this list.

2. Peec AI

Peec AI is one of the best-known AI visibility trackers. It reruns your prompts every 24 hours and shows visibility, position, sentiment and the sources AI cites, with competitor benchmarking. Starter is listed at $95 a month for 50 prompts, Pro at $245 for 150 and Advanced at $495 for 350. Every plan includes unlimited users.

  • Good for: agencies and marketing teams who want tidy reporting, API and MCP connections and many seats.
  • Watch out: you choose three engines on the entry plan, and Claude is enterprise-only. Its crawlability feature checks robots.txt but isn't a full site audit.

3. Surfer AI Tracker

Surfer, best known for its content editor, added an AI Tracker. TechRadar's October 2026 review lists a tracker-only plan at $95 a month with 50 prompts checked daily across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode. It can generate starter prompts and a competitor set from your brand name, and its mention-gap view points to content you're missing.

  • Good for: content teams already using Surfer, and anyone who cares most about Google's AI features and Perplexity.
  • Watch out: no Claude or Copilot tracking. The cheaper Standard plan tracks ChatGPT only, weekly.

4. Otterly.AI

Otterly.AI (often searched as Otterly AI) is the lowest-cost way to start. Lite is listed at $29 a month for 15 prompts and Standard at $189 for 100, with daily tracking, unlimited team members and a GEO URL audit on every plan. Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Copilot are included; AI Mode, Gemini and Claude are paid add-ons.

  • Good for: trying AI visibility tracking on a small budget.
  • Watch out: 15 prompts is not much, and add-ons for Gemini and Claude raise the real price.

5. Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit

Semrush sells an AI Visibility Toolkit for about $99 a month per domain with 25 prompts, plus extra prompt packs. Independent reviewers report that the listed engine coverage differs between Semrush's pricing page and its documentation, so check exactly what your plan includes.

  • Good for: teams that already live in Semrush and want AI data next to their SEO data.
  • Watch out: priced per domain, with a small prompt allowance.

6. Ahrefs Brand Radar

Brand Radar uses Ahrefs' large prompt database to estimate how often brands appear across AI assistants, which is useful for market-wide comparisons rather than your own question list. Paid Ahrefs plans include a small number of custom prompts; more needs higher tiers or the AI Visibility Index.

  • Good for: existing Ahrefs customers and researchers comparing brand share across a market.
  • Watch out: pricing depends on your Ahrefs plan and region, and tracking your own specific questions is limited on lower tiers.

7. Profound

Profound is built for large brands, with broad engine coverage and agent-style features. In September 2026 it removed its $99 Starter and $399 Growth self-serve plans; it now offers a free trial and custom enterprise pricing.

  • Good for: enterprises with a dedicated AI search budget and many markets.
  • Watch out: no published self-serve price any more, which makes it hard for small teams to start.

What to look for in AI SEO audit tools

Buying checklist0/7 done

Which AI SEO tool should you choose?

Whether you're choosing your first tool or looking for Peec AI alternatives or Profound alternatives, the order is the same. If you're starting from zero, audit your site first; it's free and it fixes the problems no tracker can see. Then pick a tracker by the assistants your buyers use. Need Claude without an enterprise contract? GrowMarketingPro or Ahrefs. Care most about Perplexity and Google's AI features? Surfer or Otterly. Want polished multi-user reporting? Peec AI. Have an enterprise budget? Profound.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best AI SEO tool in 2026?

It depends on what you need. For tracking plus a website AI audit on a small budget, GrowMarketingPro. For polished reporting, Peec AI. For teams using Surfer, Surfer AI Tracker. For the lowest starting price, Otterly. For enterprises, Profound.

What's the difference between an AI visibility tool and an AI SEO audit tool?

An AI visibility tool asks AI assistants questions and records whether your brand is mentioned. An AI SEO audit tool checks your website: whether AI crawlers can reach it, whether the text is readable without JavaScript, and whether it has the structured data and signals AI relies on.

Which AI visibility tools track Claude?

As of October 2026, GrowMarketingPro tracks Claude on every plan, Ahrefs Brand Radar covers Claude, and Profound includes it on Enterprise. Peec AI offers Claude on enterprise plans and Otterly sells it as an add-on.

Is there a free AI visibility tool?

GrowMarketingPro has a free plan for one brand and 10 questions checked weekly, plus a free website AI audit. Most other tools offer a free trial rather than a free plan.

How many prompts do I need to track?

Start with 20 to 50 questions that real buyers ask, across your main products and comparisons. Add more once you know which topics matter.
